Zest Food Tours is the original walking foodie tour of Wellington city since 2003. They believe the best way to discover any new place is through its food, art, culture and knowledgeable locals in personal tours of no more than 2-8 people. Zest are proud to have been awarded the NZ Culinary Tour Company two years running in 2018 & 2019 by the international Travel & Hospitality Awards as well as being one of the world’s top ten walking tours for globetrotting foodies according to Lonely Planet.

After building up long-time local artisan partnerships, Zest Food Tours have special insights for guests into how the locals live, work and play. The discerning and passionate local guides will weave the stories of Wellington’s history, culture and social development throughout the tour, and take you to places many visitors do not find on their own. By sharing thoughts on what it’s like to be a Kiwi and a Wellingtonian, and exploring some of the wonderful collaborative projects between artisans, different industries and the wonderful creative locals – you will truly understand what makes New Zealand such a special country.

Hosting with Manaakitanga (a Maori term for care and generosity) is fundamental to their way of operating, as is walking the sustainable talk. Zest Food Tours pay partners for their time and product, and support their environmental and sustainable initiatives as well as constantly looking for new opportunities themselves. As well as that they also proudly support two local food charities – Kaibosh Food Rescue and Eat My Lunch (providing lunches to children in schools) – to ensure that investment from guests is shared with local communities.

Guests are also directly contributing to New Zealand’s Tiaki Promise (a commitment to protect and preserve the beautiful country of Aoteoroa, New Zealand) by touring on foot. No unnecessary carbon emissions or traffic fumes when you explore with Zest Food Tours! They also offer private Martinborough Food and Wine Producer tours through the nearby-celebrated wine region with late model low-emission vehicles, and do as much walking as possible throughout the tour.

The Wellington city tours range from a 3.5 – hour Capital Tastes tour through to a 6 -hour Private Taste Wellington which includes a wine or craft beer-matched lunch at a top local eatery, and afternoon tea at a local foodie’s residence. Private tours are also available for those who would like their own guide; have speciality interests, or who are unable to meet the standard tour timings. They can also collaborate on tailored tours for those with walking limitations, and have guides available on request who speak Dutch, Danish, German, French and Chinese (Mandarin).

Zest’s aim is to have made new friends by the end of the tour, to have given guests a delicious and deeper understanding of the local environment, and to have enticed them to visit again or send their family and friends down under to beautiful Aoteoroa New Zealand.

Zest Food Tours is a Qualmark Endorsed Visitor Activity, and also subscribes to New Zealand’s Tourism Sustainability Commitment.
