At the Travel & Hospitality Awards we celebrate innovators who turn dreams into reality. Skypark Cairns by AJ Hackett exemplifies this spirit. Nestled in lush World Heritage rainforest just north of Cairns, this legendary adventure park has redefined adrenaline travel for more than thirty years. In recognition of its commitment to excellence, unforgettable experiences and stellar guest satisfaction, Skypark Cairns is honoured as one of our award winners.
A World of Limitless Thrills
The park welcomes visitors with a message that resonates: “enter a world without boundaries.” Here, adrenaline seekers and spectators find an immersive playground. Australia’s only Bungy tower stands proudly above a natural lagoon, inviting brave souls to leap from fifty metres in a choice of daring styles. Thrill fans can plunge into the lagoon for a water touch or perform flips and handstands in mid air. Alongside the Bungy tower, the Giant Swing releases up to three riders into an exhilarating arc at speeds approaching 120 km/h. For those wanting a gentler thrill, the Walk the Plank lets guests tip toe along a narrow platform high above the treetops, while the Tower Climb and Lookout rewards climbers with panoramic views of rainforest and reef.
Safety and enjoyment are paramount. Expert instructors guide every jump, calming nerves and ensuring equipment meets rigorous standards. Free return transfers from Cairns city allow travellers to focus on the experience rather than logistics. Guests who prefer to watch can relax on shaded viewing decks or enjoy refreshments in the bar and café while soaking in the spectacle.
A Visionary Founder
At the heart of Skypark Cairns is the pioneering spirit of AJ Hackett. The New Zealand entrepreneur famously catapulted bungy jumping into global consciousness in 1987 when he leapt from the Eiffel Tower with a rubber cord tied to his ankles. His daring would become the foundation of a global adventure empire. In 1990 he opened one of his first permanent bungy sites in Cairns. The Minjin Swing, now known as the Giant Swing, followed in 2000, adding another world first to the park’s résumé. Over the decades Skypark has hosted countless thrill seekers, from backpackers to celebrities, and even set a Guinness World Record in 2015 when more than five hundred people jumped in twenty four hours.
AJ’s ethos permeates the park. He believes in embracing risk responsibly and encouraging guests to push personal boundaries. Every crew member reflects this attitude with genuine enthusiasm, making each visitor feel like part of the adventure family. The park also acknowledges and respects the Traditional Owners of the land, weaving cultural awareness into the experience.
Award Winning Excellence
Skypark Cairns’ dedication to outstanding visitor experiences has earned numerous accolades. Its consistent five star reviews highlight the friendliness of staff, the professionalism of operations and the sheer joy of conquering fears. The park holds a coveted spot as the top rated outdoor activity in the Cairns region. In 2021 it received the Bronze award for Adventure Tourism at the Queensland Tourism Awards, placing it among the state’s elite operators. Recognition from the Travel & Hospitality Awards further underscores the park’s status as a leader in adventure tourism.
An Invitation to Adventure
Whether you are an adrenaline junkie ticking off a bucket list or a curious traveller seeking a new perspective on Queensland’s landscapes, Skypark Cairns offers an experience unlike any other. Each leap or swing is a personal triumph set against the backdrop of rainforest peaks and reef horizons.
