A Walk Through Time
Bryghia Hotel, its building located in part of the original “Domus Osterlingorum” or “House Of The Orientals”, has always been a very important part of Bruges’ history. Built during the Middle Ages between 1478 and 1481 it was the most significant of the 4 trading houses of the German Hanseatic League. Due to changing circumstances, Bruges started to lose prominence as a trading city, which eventually led to the merchants moving out of the city around the 1500s with only the coat of arms of the Holy Roman Empire hanging above the doorway of the hotel as a reminder of its rich past. Eventually in 1965, after several centuries of uneventful existence, the building was restored and turned into the hotel which led to a new exciting chapter in its history.
In 2018, the property and the hotel were acquired by the Vanrenterghem family whose long-term refurbishment programme aims to restore the hotel to its former glory in the next decade to come. As a family-owned business, we expect our guests to make themselves at home and treat our hotel like their own family hideaway. We take great pride in welcoming everyone from new-borns to great-grandparents and if you are planning a break with all of the family, Bryghia Hotel is the perfect place for gathering and celebrating with all your nearest and dearest in a warm and inviting atmosphere.
As far as the essential amenities are concerned, the hotel is a place where you will be pampered from the moment you arrive. The hotel offers 20 comfortable guest rooms which come equipped with many facilities such as bath/shower, hairdryer, minibar and coffee/tea makers. Guests can enjoy a piping hot cup of tea or coffee whilst they relax in the room. The hotel also features multilingual staff and free wireless internet access for all guests.
Though located in a very quiet part of the historic city, the hotel still benefits from being very near to the centre with the market being only a 5-minute walk away. The hotel is also placed within a 10-minute walk from the Folklore Museum, which is considered to be one of the highest-rated museums in Bruges, owing to its 17th century never-dying beauty. The museum is known to showcase a special ‘spekkenbakker’ (sweet-making) session every first and third Thursday of the month. Another place of interest not too far away is the Basilica Of The Holy Blood, which is an absolutely breath-taking spot to visit. Due to its location Bryghia Hotel is also only a 5-minute walk away from many high-quality restaurants and eateries.
Traveling in and around Bryghia Hotel is convenient as public and private transport can be arranged for, upon request. The hotel can be reached in a 30-minute drive from the Ostend/Bruges International Airport.
